Budapest International Fair, or BNV for short, is not only the biggest fair in Budapest, Hungary, but also the oldest (held since 1896). There are fashion shows, concerts, weekend family programmes with lots of kid activities, tastings, speciality fairs (e.g. a Mineral Fair) and more. The main theme of the fair changes from year to year.
BNV fair is held in October (from 2011).

The first fair was called Goods Sampling Fair and was held at the end of the 19th century, in 1896 in the City Park of Budapest. 1986 was a year which was a turning point in Budapest’s life. In 1896 the Hungarian state was celebrating its 1000th birthday with grand scale events and architectural investments including the building of the Heroes’ Square, the Millennial Monument, the City Park, Vajdahunyad Castle and more. The fair was renamed as Budapest International Fair in 1925. Almost 50 years later, in 1974 the fair moved out of the City Park (Varosliget) and away from the city centre to give enough space for the vendors and exhibitors. Hungexpo has been hosting BNV Fair for almost 40 years now. Although BNV has lost its past glory since the change of regime in 1989, it still a big trade show event.
