Judafest is a Jewish Festival in Budapest organized by the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee. It is not the same festival as Budapest Jewish Summer Festival (Zsido Nyari Fesztival), although both take place in the old Jewish district of the city of Budapest.
Judafest organizes several festivals throughout the year, many of the events are free. For instance, there was a one day summer festival or ‘street ball’ as it’s called in June, 2011. The events vary according to the main theme of the Judafest festival.
The summer festival takes place in Kazinczy street sometime at the beginning of June, usually between 10am and 6pm.
Gastronomy Festival – Judafest
The emphasis is on Jewish meals and Jewish culinary from all over the world: in addition to traditional Hungarian foods, there are Jewish foods from Poland, Morocco, Israel, Iraq. There are programmes for adults and children alike. For adults, there is brandy tasting, kosher wine tasting, making Challah or barches (traditonal sweet egg bread made on Saturdays). For children, there are kids foods of course, and children cooking classes, clowns, music concerts, drinking and eating competitions.
The gastronomy festival takes place in Gozsdu udvar, Rosenstein restaurant, Carmel restaurant, Symbol restaurant, Fröhlich confectionary, Rothschild kosher grocery, Raj confectionary
Judafest Junior is a spring festival for children with all kinds of fun activities for children (concerts, puppet theatre, story telling, races, etc.)
